Rugged Elegance Foundation is a philanthropic organization committed to promoting healthy, adventurous, and soulful living as essential tools for navigating prevalent societal issues. The organization champions climate change challenges, racial and gender equality, and the integration of aging and death as natural aspects of life. Their work is guided by The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to equity, climate, well-being, and peace, in a bid to reduce global suffering, increase joy, and foster greater harmony. The foundation was established by long-time entrepreneurs and philanthropists, Timothy Charles Fredel and Jennifer Carolyn King, who are passionate about reducing suffering, spreading joy, and promoting harmony in the world. They believe in the transformative power of an integrated life that spreads joy and harmony. Their philanthropic efforts are focused on achieving these integrated goals and contributing to a better future. They prioritize the support of BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and women leaders who are climate champions, health pioneers, paradigm-shifters, and P.E.A.C.E. creators. P.E.A.C.E. stands for Pioneers, Environmentalists, Artists, Creatives, and Entrepreneurs, all of whom play crucial roles in changing hearts, minds, and spirits. These targeted leaders are believed to be the agents of the positive change that the foundation aims to establish. In 2006, the founders converted their previous home into The Thrive House for Youth to serve primarily at-risk youth and their mentors. A shift in focus occurred in 2013 after a philanthropic systems thinking summit. Since then, their philanthropic giving has been pivoted towards the clarity of purpose and amplification of leaders. The foundation, in 2018, renovated their Sea Cliff home in San Francisco into The Thrive House 2.0, dedicated to serving P.E.A.C.E creators. In 2021, their San Francisco and Maine homes were opened to leaders, offering experiences that facilitated a deep connection with purpose and alignment of stakeholders.
