Description
Creating mathematical models for personal experiences and emotional intensity
The Qualia Research Institute (QRI) is a non-profit organization established in 2018. It is dedicated to the development of a mathematical formalization for subjective experience and its emotional valence. Using the Importance-Tractability-Neglectedness (ITN) framework, the institute conducts meticulous research to map the state-space of consciousness. They work in collaboration with academics, independent researchers, and thought leaders who are all committed to suffering-focused ethics and the creation of technologies that enhance the well-being of sentient beings. The QRI's think tank approach allows for the development of an accurate language that describes exotic experiences. They have created a method that sustains detailed memory, thus preserving the "flame of knowledge". The institute is a convergence of intelligent, introspective individuals who are driven to faithfully characterize the phenomenology and observed dynamics of exotic states of consciousness. The QRI has developed the Tracer Replication Tool to quantify the intricate visual textures induced by exotic states, thereby paving the way for a more rigorous phenomenology of consciousness. This tool enables the institute to precisely characterize different states, substances, and practices and correlate these textures to higher-level effects on cognition, emotion, and world-building. The institute believes in phenomenological reporting that focuses on the texture and structure of subjective experiences, which is crucial in advancing the scientific understanding of exotic states of consciousness. The QRI has also created a series for meditators to gain deeper self-knowledge and enhance their practice. Regardless of whether they are a beginner or an experienced practitioner, these meditations can provide profound new phenomenological insights into their consciousness research toolkits. Additionally, they offer a selection of scents inspired by their research, each scent being a unique exploration of the state-space of consciousness. The institute encourages donations to continue their research into consciousness and well-being.
